Both writing and reading are great forms of expression, but they do it in different ways. For me, writing is the approciate form of showing who you are.
When we write, we’re actually transposing non-tangible things like ideas, feelings, and experience into something tangible. It organizes our emotions and thoughts for us, and it lets us permit the world to see what we see. Writing makes it possible for one to enter the deepest thoughts and expose our inner selves in a way that speech cannot at times. For example, people can expose their deepest emotions and thoughts in novels, poems, or diaries without worrying about criticism. This helps to develop a good sense of self and is emotionally healing. Writing is therapy. It is a release for the emotions bottled up within and solace in words. When life is hard, putting it down in words makes all the difference, no doubt. Others have been solaced by writing through the worst of times; they can process those feelings, putting control of them more in their own hands.
Reading is a less apparent way of self-expression. Through reading, we permit ourselves to experience the lives, thoughts, and realizations of others. It enlightens our eyes and enables us to perceive things more clearly. We may even learn new modes of expression by understanding others as they express themselves. For example, in a novel when a character finds himself, which would make us look at our own lives and discover new ways of self-expression. Reading can also improve our language, vocabulary, and communication.Through reading good writing, we learn to write and speak better and more creatively. And the better we are at using language, the better we can share our thoughts and feelings.
In short, while reading may make us knowlageable and eloquent, writing allows us to define ourselves. Writing allows us to express to others the individuality of our experience, feelings, and thoughts. It’s so simple and natural a means of communication with oneself and others for what one possesses within. That’s why I think writing is a stronger medium of self-expression.
