Why are We Lonelier Now?

Have you ever thought about it? It really feels like we are lonelier now than people were in the past. Children especially seem much less social than they used to be. I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, and the idea just won’t leave my mind.

When we compare the past with the present, the difference is clear. In the past, people spent time together, talked face-to-face, and created joyful memories. Children played outside for hours, got bored together, argued, laughed — but they were present with each other. Today, however, things are different. Phones and tablets have taken over children’s free time. Instead of meeting their friends, they text. Instead of playing in the garden, they play computer games. This slowly separates them from their friends and from society.

One of the biggest reasons behind this change is technology. Years ago, technology didn’t exist the way it does today. Even simple daily tasks were done manually, and people often did them together, which naturally encouraged communication and socialization. Now technology does almost everything for us. In theory, this should give us more time to socialize — yet we use that time staring at screens instead.

So what can be done? The solution is simple but difficult: we all need to step away from our phones more often and reconnect with the real world.
